I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples. -Mother Teresa
My story begins in a home with a single mom and 3 kids. Not being allowed to complete her studies as a child, my mom relied heavily on her knitting skills to earn an income in our household. It took a significant amount of sacrifice and dedication. She was also fortunate in that she had family and friends who believed in her and invested in small ways to help her grow. As a result she could clothe and educate us but more importantly create a happy home.
As I was growing up, I had bigger dreams and aspirations. I was always told how knowledge is power and education must be the primary focus, yet the thought of studying was an absolute desire but such a financial challenge. But just like my mum, I was still able to realise my dreams because people believed in me. I was fortunate enough to have family and friends that were willing to invest in me with their time, money, knowledge. They shared only what they were willing to share, which probably didn’t seem much to them, but it made a world of difference in my life. Today, I consider myself a successful person.
I was fortunate to secure a job, buy a car, buy a home, further my studies and give back to the community. Not because I did it all on my own, but because I had helping hands along the way. All I had to do was have the right attitude, passion and determination.
Today, I am hoping that this website creates the same opportunities for those people with the same kind of passion, determination and desire to uplift their lives through skills and knowledge. I invite the more fortunate and privileged people to take a small step that will create change in the lives of many. I had people in my life to “UpLiftMe”. Will you be that person in someone else’s life?
