How well do you know yourself?
When was the last time you thought about your strengths and abilities? Or what you are passionate about? Or even your likes or dislikes? Sometimes, we know we want to explore something different but just don’t know what. More often than not, we don’t even know where to begin. Upskilling or re-skilling yourself is easy, but only when you know yourself!
I thought it would be good to try and find some tools that will help you to first get to know yourself. Please take note, that these tools do not by any means offer expert or professional advice, but it does provide some food for thought. I have used a few of these tools and then tried to think of examples in my life where I showed some of these characteristics. In some instances, it just made me more aware of character traits that I did not even know I had.
Some tools are a list of questions that you need to answer, whilst others ask you to choose between pictures that most represent you. My favourite was choosing from a set of colours, and it was the shortest test. I’m sure many of you are like me, constantly in search for simple and quick solutions. Well, here are some of the free online tools I used. I hope they help you to get to know yourself better.
Well I have to start with my favourite, the Color Career Quiz. It was really quick and easy, and I surprisingly found it to be fairly accurate to some extent. The 123test asks you to choose between pictures and then provides you with some suggestions on career paths to choose from. If you are looking for a more in-depth understanding, then try O*NET Interest Profiler. Career suggestions are based on your interests. Simply follow the instructions. And finally, there is the Red Bull WingFinder. It is a lengthy test but you get a 19 page report on your strengths and weaknesses.
When you become more aware of who are – your strengths, how you manage relationships and what drives you, you can make a more informed decision about what skills do you need to grow or advance your career. I know that the tools I have mentioned here are just a few of what’s available, but I am hoping that it will help you to get started. Have fun!
